Four charities from across the East Midlands got a much needed cash boost when they received a total of £10,000 from local charity the Star Trust.
Star Trust, itself a charity, which raises money to donate to small to medium sized East Midlands based charities, donated the proceeds from its annual fundraising ball held at Stapleford Park Hotel. The selected charities received cheques at a special handover at luxury car showroom at Aston Martin, Nottingham.
The annual ball raised £123,000 and was sponsored by Bentley and Lamborghini Leicester. The four charities will use the funds to support numerous individual great local causes across the region.
Chairman of the Star Trust Steve Hampson said: “This is our second mass presentation to charities. We have already deliver nine cheques to nine charities earlier this year.
“With the generosity of the Star Trust Annual Ball attendees, we were able to raise monies to donate to the nine charities and then this further four individual charities, providing some amazing work in the region.”
The four charities were: The Freedom Foundation based in Nottingham, Nottingham Arts Theatre, Phab Nottingham and Peter Le Marchant Trust in Loughborough..
Steve added: “We were able to utilise the stunning showrooms of Aston Martin and Lamborghini to host the presentation and as always we are appreciative of their kind support and assistance in making the event possible.
“Overall it was a wonderful opportunity to get multiple charities together and we were delighted to see that they used the opportunity to discuss common issues they face and meet one another for the first time.”
Laura Grant of Freedom Foundation, an organisation which helps children and young people deal with anxiety and depression as a result of social media, said: “We are extremely pleased with our cheque for £1,505. It means so much to receive donations for the work that we do.”
Tim Marren of Peter Le Marchant Trust received a cheque for £3,025. He said: “This money will help us maintain our canal boats which take our young people who are disabled and from marginalised communities on day trips.”
Katy Conlon of Phab received a cheque for £3,000 and explained that the money would be used for a summer residential that the organisation runs for young people.
Campbell Kay of Nottingham Arts Theatre received £2,500 to support its performances.
Star Trust is set to raise further funds this year with a family fun day in Leicestershire on 11 May, a supercar motoring day in Derbyshire on 3 June and the annual ball again at Stapleford Park on 9 November
